The Healing Ministry

Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.  James 5:14-16

Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”  2 Corinthians 12:7-9

As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. 2 His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. John 9:1-3

These scriptures are all true. God can completely heal us by taking away the physical problem (which can be linked at times with our sin) or he can choose not to take away our physical problems even after prayer knowing that we will be taught invaluable life and spiritual lessons from it. God also allows long standing physical issues to be in our lives so that He can be glorified. Sickness can be a time that increases our faith as our reliance on God is needed more than ever. Sickness can also a time when people can turn away from God in anger or in faithlessness as they get centered on themselves and their pain. This ministry will provide help to strengthen each person’s faith in God.

This Friday at 7:30pm at Dan and Sue Fisk’s home we will officially begin our Healing Ministry. (The Fisk home is located at 5907 Clermont landing Court; Burke, VA 22015.) We are very thankful that Dan (a practicing physician) and Sue (a true “Mom” of the church with a huge heart of compassion and service) have offered themselves to lead this new ministry and have opened their home for this group to meet in. This will be a time of prayer, scripture reading and emotional support for those who feel the need and desire of this in their lives. Again, the first opportunity for this group is this Friday. It will then be available on the last Friday of every month except December. For specific dates, you can look on the NOVA calendar. As we begin this new ministry, we would like for everyone to pray for this to effectively help build-up the body.

All our love, Randy and Kay
